The Airport Pant

Perfect for travelling (hence the ‘Airport Pant’), or for days when you can’t face jeans, but need more than a jogger. I put on a pair from Vir Vita last week to run some errands – I had my hair scraped back in an Olaplex bun, no makeup but these pants made me feel chic. I added some ballet flats and a tank and it was the perfect comfort dressing outfit – minimal effort, yet still pulled together.

How To Style

Inspiration on how to wear your ‘Airport Pant’ even when you’re not heading to the airport.

• Add flip flops, loafers or a ballet flat, less obvious than trainers and keeps them elevated.
• Layer shirts or knits over baby tees and tanks – adds interest and a styling element to a simple look.
• A bag to add interest in colour, texture or size. Go slouchy or structured – both work.
• And the ultimate accessory for A/W – the scarf. Casually drape like Zoë Kravitz fresh off a plane or wrap like Kendall Jenner for a more elegant touch. It’s practical and stylish.

Where to buy

The key is a fabric with enough structure to not look like loungewear but enough give to make it comfortable. This is exactly what makes the perfect airport pant, that hybrid of smart and casual.

I’ve collected quite a few over the years on the quest for the perfect pair. The Row Gala Pant repeatedly comes up as the very best, but I’m yet to try. LESET Nando Lounge Pants or Lauren Wide-Leg Pants are ones I turn to again and again.

New finds for me are 44OME Cashmere Silk Flare Pant (wearing below) and Vir Vita Pointelle Lounge Pants.

I’ve heard really good things about La Ligne Colby Pants and need to try as these look a little smarter. And Cou Cou is a brand I plan on placing an order with soon including these Pointelle Pants – ideal for WFH days.

Outfit Ideas

Keep it simple with the addition of a few key accessories. A statement scarf and bag with texture. Comfortable yet chic and smart enough to head for dinner.

Layering is key – a V-neck knit over a white tee with red flats and leopard print. The ultimate airport outfit.

Playing with contrast with a smart bag and flip-flops. Throw on a trench coat to complete the look. A look to run errands in style.
