I recently helped my daughter put together outfits for her nights out, and it reminded me how different things look now compared with when I was in my 20s. Back then, a night out meant heels – no question. Today it’s trainers or boots, with comfort being key.
In the late ’90s and early 2000s, a night out in Soho meant skinny jeans, stilettos, and a going-out top (Topshop, obvs). Burberry checks and Louis Vuitton were the designer bags of choice – and comfort didn’t even cross our minds.
Fast forward to now, I recently filmed a styling video with Libby (you can watch here), helping her plan some weekend outfits. No more sky-high heels or barely-there clothes. The cool girls are in trainers or boots, teamed with baggy trousers and bandeau tops, or sheer skirts, oversized tees, and vintage leather jackets.

“What I love most is how effortless it feels now – a continuation of your day style, just tweaked with a little more attitude for the evening.”
A few of the looks we pulled together – Lace Shorts (I love this pair from Intimissimi), Knee High Boots, Cargo Trousers, and Sheer Skirts (Libby’s is from Susamusa).
