The Festival Wardrobe Edit

I’m sadly not going to Glastonbury this year, but I’ve got plenty of ideas about what I’d be wearing if I were. For me, it’s all about diving into your existing wardrobe, pulling out pieces that work, and putting a fresh spin on them to make them festival-appropriate.

First up, think practically- what’s the weather situation? This is the UK, after all. It could be a heatwave, it could be a storm- so be prepared for both. You’ll need layers, as it will get chilly in the evening- I’d go for a leather jacket or a barn jacket. You’ll need boots, no matter the weather (don’t even think about going near the toilets in anything other than a sturdy boot). A hat is essential- for sunshine and for day-three festival hair. A raincoat is probably a given. Sunglasses to hide the sins of the night before, and a cross-body bag for all the essentials.

Next, have fun with your look. Once the essentials are covered, you can go for something like a cool satin and lace dress, or a band tee paired with a silk and lace slip skirt, or a cami with shorts. Then add jewellery to give your look personality- think ear cuffs, statement necklaces, a gold chain belt. A silk scarf tied around your head, neck, or waist is a great way to add a touch of interest.

I tend to stick to a neutral colour palette and mix textures to keep my look elevated, but I’m loving the Missoni print right now- those subtle pastel tones in a structured stripe add just the right amount of personality.

Personally, I find the simpler the look, the chicer. I tend to avoid anything too ‘festival’ worn all at once- I prefer to create contrast and tension in an outfit. Wear the cowboy boots, but not with the denim cut-offs and the fringed jacket. Elevate the boots with a silk nightie-style dress, or throw the fringed jacket over a simple slip dress instead.

It’s great to look your best and have stylish pieces to mix and match. But after a few drinks, as the sun sets and you’re dancing to your favourite band with friends, your outfit will be the last thing on your mind. Don’t overthink it.
